Dimi and Willy about their job at Transport Vermeulen

2 December 2017 | Uncategorized | Transport Vermeulen

This month, 2 of our drivers would like to tell you about their job at Vermeulen. We have put one of our newcomers next to the most experienced employee of our team. Dimi, a relaxed twenty-year-old, has been driving for Transport Vermeulen for a year now. Willy has been driving our trucks for almost 20 years and is about to retire.

Why did you become a truck driver?
Dimi: I was brought up with a passion for trucks. My father is also a truck driver and used to take me along with him in his truck. As a child, I immediately fell for this job and knew that this is what I wanted to do later.
Willy: It's a profession that I was interested in from a very early age. You get to go places, in our country and abroad. You have lots of freedom and you get to meet a lot of people.

What is your worst annoyance in your job?
Dimi: Traffic jams! In particular, traffic jams caused by people looking at accidents in the other lane really irritate me.
Willy: Drivers who hit the road at high speed and exit 100 m further down. It's very dangerous to just shoot in front of a truck; our vehicles have a much longer braking distance than a passenger car.

What do you like most about your job as a truck driver?
Dimi: The freedom that you have in planning your work. I also like the variation. Every load is different, every unloading location is different.
Willy: As a truck driver, you have a very varied job. Moreover, you know the code that applies when you’re on the road and you are able to perform difficult manoeuvres that others don't always master.

What is your motto when you're driving?
Dimi: Carpe diem. Seize the day.
Willy: The dawn is amazing. I can really enjoy the sunrise while sitting at the wheel of my truck. And it is much more relaxed to drive early in the morning.

And finally, why did you decide to work for Transport Vermeulen?
Dimi: The Vermeulen team is a fantastic team to work for. The great variation in the loads that I get to transport is also a big plus.
Willy: It’s a friendly family business with a pleasant work atmosphere. Over the past decades, Transport Vermeulen has proved to be a stable company and that certainty gives me peace of mind.
