On the 8th of July 2020, the European Congress approved the highly discussed Mobility Package. The effective implementation will be phased over a period of 6 years. Phase one started on the 20th of August 2020 and handles mainly about driving times and resting periods.
For example, the normal 45 hours of weekly rest will no longer be allowed in the cabin, which will lead to an increase in costs. Furthermore, drivers will have to return every 4 weeks to the country where the employer is established or to the place of residence of the driver. In addition, under certain conditions, drivers in international transport will be given an additional 2 hours a day to drive home or to the company when they are 'coming home' at the end of the working week. These hours must be compensated within 3 weeks. |
